In this period of transition (removing Silas from his school, trying out some new environments, looking for work, contemplating moving...), I'm trying to notice all the little things that put a smile on my face on a daily basis.
I'm taking my lead from my image of a Great Horned Owl. I picture myself still and watchful, knowing my job, but holding a beginner's mind. I'm quietly observing, participating when necessary, expecting everything...and nothing.
Right now I'm appreciating...- The lovely people at The Great Oak School and Texas Children's Pediatric Clinic, whose loving care of Silas (and me) this week truly mitigated a few scary moments for me.
- The comforts of simple routines...pumpkin pancakes, bread-making, reading time, playing silly games we make up with names like "bee kissing", "licking monster", "pet the kitty" (Silas is the kitty).
Finding creative ways to empower my little one in the face of fears--here is our "guard owl" chain, which is one of a series of "protections" we employ. Thanks to The Vintage Chica for leading me here. We used last year's Putamayo Kids and Jungfraujoch calendars for the owl bodies, and construction paper for the eyes.
- The Olympics...I'm only watching pieces, but I find inspiration in people who are so dedicated, daring, and who demonstrate that mind, body and spirit can be aligned.
- Watching my little kitchen helper show so much pride in completing his task--especially as he put away each dried dish in the cupboards and drawers he could reach on his own (he knows where everything goes!).

Cindy, You are the best Mom! Dedicated, patient, creative. Silas is one lucky little dude!
